The stories range from the Christianisation during the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 and the forced communist renaming of the Pomaks in the 1970's, to their fascinating wedding rituals and historic figures. Each of the five narratives contains its own storyline and serves as a prominent example of Pomak heritage, from the author?s perspective. The stories take place in the context of fervent nationalism and the ongoing censorship of Pomakness based on the claim that it is an ?ethnic Bulgarian,? not ?Pomak? heritage. 410 0$aBalkan studies library ;$vVolume 14. 606 $aPomaks$zBulgaria$xSocial conditions 606 $aPomaks$zBulgaria$xSocial life and customs 606 $aPomaks$zBulgaria$vCase studies 606 $aPomaks$zBulgaria$vBiography 606 $aCulture conflict$zBulgaria 606 $aCulture conflict$zRhodope Mountains Region 607 $aBulgaria$xEthnic relations 607 $aRhodope Mountains Region$xEthnic relations 615 0$aPomaks$xSocial conditions. 615 0$aPomaks$xSocial life and customs. 615 0$aPomaks 615 0$aPomaks 615 0$aCulture conflict 615 0$aCulture conflict 676 $a305.6/970499 700 $aMyuhtar-May$b Fatme$01627325 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910825490203321 996 $aIdentity, nationalism, and cultural heritage under siege$93963857 997 $aUNINA
