Much to her surprise, Professor Street discovered (shortly after her arrival) that Linfen had previously been used as a "natural" prison for perceived dissidents during the Cultural Revolution. For many, Street was the first Westerner they'd ever seen. The book includes dozens of interviews with Communist Party members as well as Street's day-to-day experiences as an American faculty member living in rural China - her daily adventures buying and cooking food as well as her comical forays at the local post office and train station. 606 $aEducation$zChina$xHistory$y1976- 607 $aChina$xIntellectual life$y1976- 615 0$aEducation$xHistory 676 $a370/.951/09047 700 $aStreet$b Nancy Lynch$0714230 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910825086303321 996 $aIn search of Red Buddha$91323167 997 $aUNINA
