In der vorliegenden Arbeit geht es um Messmodelle zur Erfassung derjenigen Teilprozesse, die es dem Menschen ermöglichen zu erkennen, dass man mit einer bestimmten Information schon einmal in der Vergangenheit konfrontiert wurde (Itemrekognition) und die es ermöglichen, sich an die Herkunft einer Information zu erinnern (Quellengedächtnis). Insbesondere wegen der breiten wissenschaftlichen Anwendung der Konstrukte Itemrekognition und Quellengedächtnis ist das Problem der Isolation interessierender Prozesse aus den beobachtbaren Verhaltensdaten möglichst geschickt zu lösen. Multinomiale Schwellenmodelle und signalentdeckungstheoretische Modelle sind zur getrennten Erfassung von Erinnerungsprozessen bezüglich der Item- und der Quelleninformation und unterschiedlicher Ratetendenzen geeignet. Signalentdeckungstheoretische Modelle werden dabei häufig als die valideren Messmodelle betrachtet, unter anderem, weil sie sich gut mit derzeit existierenden umfassenden Theorien zur Struktur und Funktion des Gedächtnisses verknüpfen lassen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden die theoretischen und empirischen Gründe, die für die Wahl der einen oder anderen Modellklasse sprechen, umfassend anhand eines theoretischen Überblicks und mithilfe der Ergebnisse eigener experimenteller Untersuchungen und Simulationsstudien untersucht.
