This book describes 12 initiatives already undertaken in 10 WHO Member States. It documents WHO's preliminary findings on how health care systems can help to alleviate poverty, and reaches three main conclusions: health care systems can indeed take effective action to improve the health of the poor; sometimes health care systems can actually represent an additional barrier for the poor and there is an urgent need for more knowledge, training and capacity-building in this area. It is hoped that the information presented here will contribute to the efforts to improve health and increase equity by tackling poverty and its effects on health across the length and breadth of Europe. 410 0$aPublic health case studies ;$vno. 1. 606 $aPublic health$xSocial aspects$zEurope$vCase studies 606 $aPublic health$xEconomic aspects$zEurope$vCase studies 606 $aPoor$xMedical care$zEurope$vCase studies 606 $aCommunity health services$zEurope$vCase studies 615 0$aPublic health$xSocial aspects 615 0$aPublic health$xEconomic aspects 615 0$aPoor$xMedical care 615 0$aCommunity health services 676 $a362.1/094 701 $aZiglio$b Erio$0519068 712 02$aWorld Health Organization.$bRegional Office for Europe. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910824205603321 996 $aHealth systems confront poverty$93969527 997 $aUNINA
