The modern Hebrew name of the site is based on its suggested identification with biblical Jotbathah (Deut 10:7), where the Israelites encamped during their desert wanderings. The modern Arabic name of the site, Ein Ghadian, may preserve the ancient Roman name Ad Dianam. Because the Late Roman fort at Yotvata is visible as a low mound next to the Arava road, it has long been known to scholars. Each June between 2003 and 2007, Gwyn Davies (Florida International University) and Jodi Magness (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) co-directed excavations here. This volume provides the results of those excavations, adding substantially to our knowledge of Roman defenses in the third and fourth centuries of the Common Era, along the trade route that traversed the southern Arava and on the eastern frontier of the Empire. 606 $aKastell$3(DE-588)4136071-0$2gnd 606 $aRo?merzeit$3(DE-588)4076769-3$2gnd 606 $aFunde$3(DE-588)4071507-3$2gnd 606 $aArcha?ologische Sta?tte$3(DE-588)4318315-3$2gnd 606 $aRomans$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01100116 606 $aFortification, Roman$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00933044 606 $aExcavations (Archaeology)$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00917564 606 $aClassical antiquities$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00863445 606 $aRomans$zIsrael$zYot?vatah 606 $aFortification, Roman$zIsrael$zYot?vatah 606 $aExcavations (Archaeology)$zIsrael$zYot?vatah 607 $aIsrael$zYot?vatah$2fast 607 $aYot?vatah (Israel)$xAntiquities, Roman 608 $aBildband. 615 07$aKastell. 615 07$aRo?merzeit. 615 07$aFunde. 615 07$aArcha?ologische Sta?tte. 615 7$aRomans. 615 7$aFortification, Roman. 615 7$aExcavations (Archaeology) 615 7$aClassical antiquities. 615 0$aRomans 615 0$aFortification, Roman 615 0$aExcavations (Archaeology) 676 $a933/.49 700 $aDavies$b Gwyn$0600134 701 $aMagness$b Jodi$01616791 701 $aElkins$b Nathan T$0753059 801 0$bMdBmJHUP 801 1$bMdBmJHUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910823117603321 996 $aThe 2003-2007 Excavations in the Late Roman Fort at Yotvata$94104382 997 $aUNINA
