During the 1920's, Franck was a prominent figure in the German physics community. His research into the structure of the atom earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1925. After the Nazis seized power in 1933, Franck resigned his professorship at Gottingen in protest against anti-Jewish policies. He soon emigrated to the United States, where, at the University of Chicago, he began innovative research into photosynthesis. 410 0$aStanford nuclear age series. 606 $aPhysicists$zGermany$vBiography 606 $aNobel Prize winners$zGermany$vBiography 606 $aJewish refugees$zUnited States$vBiography 615 0$aPhysicists 615 0$aNobel Prize winners 615 0$aJewish refugees 676 $a530.092 676 $aB 700 $aLemmerich$b J$01149545 701 $aHentschel$b Ann$01149546 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910823021303321 996 $aScience and conscience$94057982 997 $aUNINA
