The wars in former Yugoslavia, following hot on the civil war in Lebanon, were reminders that the settlements of 1918-22 were not final. While many of the successor states to the Ottoman empire, in east and west, had been built on forms of nationalist ideology and rhetoric opposed to the empire, a newer trend among historians has been to look at these histories as Ottoman provincial history. The present volume is an attempt to bring some of those histories from across the former Ottoman space together. They cover from parts of former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria and Greece to Lebanon, including Turkey itself, providing rich material for comparing regions which normally are not compared. 607 $aTurkey$xHistory$yMehmed VI, 1918-1922 607 $aBalkan Peninsula$xHistory$y1918-1945 607 $aMiddle East$xHistory$y20th century 608 $aElectronic books. 676 $a956/.03 701 $aNielsen$b Jørgen S$0921722 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910457646003321 996 $aReligion, ethnicity and contested nationhood in the former Ottoman space$92067975 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03990nam 2200505 450 001 9910823010303321 005 20230316212910.0 010 $a1-4214-2447-9 035 $a(CKB)3840000000336152 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5108366 035 $a(OCoLC)1020077219 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse66610 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5108366 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr11500882 035 $a(EXLCZ)993840000000336152 100 $a20170426d2018 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 00$aState wildlife management and conservation /$feditor, Thomas J. Their contributions, from remote outposts to major cities, guard the natural world of the entire country. In State Wildlife Management and Conservation, Thomas J. Ryder brings together wildlife leaders from practical, policy, and academic backgrounds to tell the story of state wildlife agencies, chronicling their efforts to restore and protect our nation's natural resources. Reflecting the core principle of the profession--that the public, not any individual, owns wildlife--the book explains how this tenet became law, laying the groundwork for the history of state-level wildlife management that follows. The authors cover key issues, including the limits of private land ownership, the funding of wildlife regulation, the nuances of human-wildlife conflict, the role of law enforcement, disease control efforts, and the challenges involved in balancing the perspectives of hunters, nonhunters, and animal rights advocates. Detailed essays also discuss state management techniques for a wide range of wildlife, including big game and migratory birds. State Wildlife Management and Conservation is a comprehensive, nationwide account of state management efforts. It will aid professors training the next generation of wildlife professionals, students hoping to enter the profession, and anyone working with wildlife to develop a more sophisticated understanding of what it means to be a state wildlife biologist. 410 0$aWildlife management and conservation (Series) 606 $aWildlife management$zUnited States 606 $aWildlife management$zUnited States$xFinance 606 $aWildlife conservation$zUnited States 615 0$aWildlife management 615 0$aWildlife management$xFinance. 615 0$aWildlife conservation 676 $a333.95/4 702 $aRyder$b Thomas J. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910823010303321 996 $aState wildlife management and conservation$94047753 997 $aUNINA
