Hindu and Buddhist concepts and symbols of kingship and statecraft helped to legitimize Southeast Asian rulers, and transform the political institutions and authority of Southeast Asia. But the process of this diffusion was not accompanied by imperialism, political hegemony, or "colonization" as conventionally understood. This book investigates different explanations of the spread of Indian ideas offered by scholars, including why and how it occurred and what were its key political and institutional outcomes. It challenges the view that strategic competition is a recurring phenomenon when civilizations encounter each other. 606 $aHISTORY / Asia / India & South Asia$2bisacsh 607 $aSoutheast Asia$xCivilization$xIndic influences 607 $aSoutheast Asia$xPolitics and government 607 $aIndia$xRelations$zSoutheast Asia 607 $aSoutheast Asia$xRelations$zIndia 615 7$aHISTORY / Asia / India & South Asia. 676 $a303.4825105 700 $aAcharya$b Amitav$0480885 712 02$aInstitute of Southeast Asian Studies, 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910822901303321 996 $aCivilizations in embrace$94106101 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03424nam 22007095 450 001 9910743342203321 005 20251229075131.0 010 $a981-16-7818-9 010 $a981-16-7817-0 010 $a981-16-7818-9 024 7 $a10.1007/978-981-16-7818-9 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6882496 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6882496 035 $a(CKB)21069312500041 035 $a(PPN)260828076 035 $a(BIP)83139637 035 $a(BIP)81903193 035 $a(DE-He213)978-981-16-7818-9 035 $a(EXLCZ)9921069312500041 100 $a20220202d2022 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aAchieving $5 Trillion Economy of India $eProceedings of 11th Annual International Research Conference of Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies /$fedited by Arti Chandani, Rajiv Divekar, J.
