Our results suggest that the substantial reduction in the stock of external debt projected for highly indebted poor countries (HIPCs) would directly increase per capita income growth by about 1 percentage point per annum. Reductions in external debt service could also provide an indirect boost to growth through their effects on public investment. If half of all debt-service relief were channeled for such purposes without increasing the budget deficit, then growth could accelerate in some HIPCs by an additional 0.5 percentage point per annum. 410 0$aIMF working paper ;$vWP/03/249. 606 $aDebts, External$zDeveloping countries 606 $aPublic investments$zDeveloping countries 607 $aDeveloping countries$xEconomic conditions 615 0$aDebts, External 615 0$aPublic investments 700 $aClements$b Benedict J$0122914 701 $aBhattacharya$b Rina$01644489 701 $aNguyen$b Toan Quoc$01757890 712 02$aInternational Monetary Fund.$bFiscal Affairs Dept. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910821997603321 996 $aExternal debt, public investment, and growth in low-income countries$94195907 997 $aUNINA
