The decadal surveys are notable in their ability to sample thoroughly the research interest, aspirations, and needs of a scientific community. Through a rigorous process, a primary survey committee and thematic panels of community members construct a prioritized program of science goals and objectives and define an executable strategy for achieving them. These reports play a critical role in defining the nation's agenda in that science area for the following 10 years, and often beyond. The Space Science Decadal Surveys considers the lessons learned from previous surveys and presents options for possible changes and improvements to the process, including the statement of task, advanced preparation, organization, and execution. This report discusses valuable aspects of decadal surveys that could taken further, as well as some challenges future surveys are likely to face in searching for the richest areas of scientific endeavor, seeking community consensus of where to go next, and planning how to get there. The Space Science Decadal Surveys describes aspects in the decadal survey prioritization process, including balance in the science program and across the discipline; balance between the needs of current researchers and the development of the future workforce; and balance in mission scale - smaller, competed programs versus large strategic missions.--$cSource other than the Library of Congress. 606 $aAstronomy$xResearch$xForecasting 606 $aAstrophysics$xResearch$xForecasting 606 $aSpace sciences$xResearch$xForecasting 615 0$aAstronomy$xResearch$xForecasting. 615 0$aAstrophysics$xResearch$xForecasting. 615 0$aSpace sciences$xResearch$xForecasting. 676 $a520.72 712 02$aNational Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (U.S.).$bCommittee on Survey of Surveys: Lessons Learned from the Decadal Survey Process. 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910821980403321 996 $aThe space science decadal surveys$94005758 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01894nas 2200505-a 450 001 9910145202703321 005 20260218110710.0 035 $a(DE-599)ZDB2579531-4 035 $a(CKB)1000000000277101 035 $a(CONSER)--2006229229 035 $a(DE-599)2579531-4 035 $a(EXLCZ)991000000000277101 100 $a20051013b20052005 --- a 101 0 $aeng 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aNewsletter /$fEuropean Network and Information Security Agency 210 $a[Luxembourg] $cPublications Office, European Communities$d2005 215 $a1 online resource 300 $aTitle from caption. 311 08$aPrint version: Newsletter (European Network and Information Security Agency) 1830-3609 (DLC) 2006229229 (OCoLC)62074678 531 $aQUARTERLY (EUROPEAN NETWORK AND INFORMATION SECURITY AGENCY) 606 $aComputer networks$xSecurity measures$zEurope$vPeriodicals 606 $aInternet$xSecurity measures$zEurope$vPeriodicals 606 $aComputer security$zEurope$vPeriodicals 606 $aComputer networks$xSecurity measures$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00872341 606 $aComputer security$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst00872484 606 $aInternet$xSecurity measures$2fast$3(OCoLC)fst01751426 607 $aEurope$2fast 608 $aNewsletters.$2fast 608 $aPeriodicals.$2fast 608 $aNewsletters.$2lcgft 615 0$aComputer networks$xSecurity measures 615 0$aInternet$xSecurity measures 615 0$aComputer security 615 7$aComputer networks$xSecurity measures. 615 7$aComputer security. 615 7$aInternet$xSecurity measures. 712 02$aEuropean Network and Information Security Agency. 906 $aJOURNAL 912 $a9910145202703321 920 $aexl_impl conversion 996 $aNewsletter$9976803 997 $aUNINA
