Excavations show that this method is distinctive and geographically limited; this is expressed by the technology, organization, development and large-scale production. The ironmaking practice had its origins in increasing demands for iron, due to growth in urbanization, church power, kingship and mercantile networks. Rundberget's main hypothesis is that iron became the economic basis for political developments, from chiefdom to kingdom. Iron extraction activity grew from the late Viking Age, throughout the early medieval period, before suddenly collapsing around AD 1300. This trend correlates with the rise and fall of the kingdom"--Provided by publisher. 410 0$aNorthern world ;$v76. 606 $aIron-works$zNorway$zHedmark fylke$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aIron$zNorway$zHedmark fylke$xMetallurgy$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aExcavations (Archaeology)$zNorway$zHedmark fylke 606 $aIndustrial archaeology$zNorway$zHedmark fylke 606 $aIron age$zNorway$zHedmark fylke$xHistory 606 $aIron$xEconomic aspects$zNorway$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aIron$xPolitical aspects$zNorway$xHistory$yTo 1500 607 $aHedmark fylke (Norway)$xAntiquities 607 $aNorway$xHistory$yTo 1030 607 $aNorway$xHistory$y1030-1397 615 0$aIron-works$xHistory 615 0$aIron$xMetallurgy$xHistory 615 0$aExcavations (Archaeology) 615 0$aIndustrial archaeology 615 0$aIron age$xHistory. 615 0$aIron$xEconomic aspects$xHistory 615 0$aIron$xPolitical aspects$xHistory 676 $a669/.141094820902 700 $aRundberget$b Bernt$01652332 702 $aHines$b John 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910821425303321 996 $aTales of the iron bloomery$94002911 997 $aUNINA
