It argues that the Johannine community regularly gathered for communal meals in which the food and drink on the menu would have taken on a spiritual significance far exceeding the physical sustenance. The study employs a socio-rhetorical methodology and consequently moves from text to context. It tentatively describes the texts? influence on the formation of early Christian identity and suggests that the Johannine meal accounts provide a way to imagine the demographic composition of the community and its historical context. 410 0$aBiblical interpretation series ;$vv. 109. 606 $aDinners and dining in the Bible 606 $aIdentification (Religion)$xHistory 615 0$aDinners and dining in the Bible. 615 0$aIdentification (Religion)$xHistory. 676 $a226.5/067 700 $aKobel$b Esther$f1977-$01720778 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910821157103321 996 $aDining with John$94119771 997 $aUNINA
