Could it then be said that the Counter-Reformation was his step-child? The close relationship between the Reformation, the printing press and books has received extensive, historiographical attention, which is clearly justified; however, the links between books and the Catholic world have often been limited to a tale of censorship and repression. The current volume looks beyond this, with a series of papers that aim to shed new light on the complex relationships between Catholicism and books during the early modern period, before and after the religious schism, with special focus on trade, common reads and the mechanisms used to control readership in different territories, together with the similarities between the Catholic and the Protestant worlds. Contributors include: Stijn Van Rossem, Rafael M. Pérez García, Pedro J. Rueda Ramírez, Idalia García Aguilar, Bianca Lindorfer, Natalia Maillard Álvarez, and Adrien Delmas. 410 0$aLibrary of the written word ;$v33. 606 $aBook industries and trade$zEurope$xHistory 606 $aBook industries and trade$zNew Spain$xHistory 606 $aBook industries and trade$zSouth Africa$xHistory 606 $aPrinting$xHistory 606 $aCatholic literature$xPublishing$xHistory 606 $aCatholics$xBooks and reading$xHistory 606 $aCounter-Reformation 615 0$aBook industries and trade$xHistory. 615 0$aBook industries and trade$xHistory. 615 0$aBook industries and trade$xHistory. 615 0$aPrinting$xHistory. 615 0$aCatholic literature$xPublishing$xHistory. 615 0$aCatholics$xBooks and reading$xHistory. 615 0$aCounter-Reformation. 676 $a381/.45002 701 $aMaillard Alvarez$b Natalia$01176358 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910820394803321 996 $aBooks in the Catholic world during the early modern period$93926488 997 $aUNINA
