More specifically, it looks at the emergence of the Magnús? cult in the twelfth century and the hagiographical corpus that was composed in his honour by Icelandic and English men of letters. These aspects of the Orcadian cult are not, however, examined in isolation but are rather placed within broader Scandinavian and European contexts. Moreover, they provide points of departure for the examination of important topics relating to religious life and literature in early Christian Scandinavia, such as the earliest cults of native saints and the perception of martyrdom. 410 0$aNorthern world ;$vv. 29. 606 $aChristianity$zScandinavia 606 $aMartyrdom$xChristianity$xHistory of doctrines 606 $aChristian saints$zScotland 606 $aHagiography$xHistory 606 $aSpiritual life$xChristianity$xHistory of doctrines$yMiddle Ages, 600-1500 607 $aScandinavia$xChurch history$yTo 1500 615 0$aChristianity 615 0$aMartyrdom$xChristianity$xHistory of doctrines. 615 0$aChristian saints 615 0$aHagiography$xHistory. 615 0$aSpiritual life$xChristianity$xHistory of doctrines 676 $a274.8/04 700 $aAntonsson$b Haki$01665346 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910819858503321 996 $aSt. Magnu?s of Orkney$94023915 997 $aUNINA
