He published enduring novels, novellas, and short stories in many genres: fables, satires, romances, voyages into the unknown. He collaborated with other major sf writers--Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Theodore Sturgeon, Jack Williamson--on other novels. The Space Merchants (1953), written with C. M. Kornbluth, is an established classic. His 1977 novel Gateway is another; it swept the awards that year, winning the Hugo, the Locus, the Nebula, and theJohn W. Campbell Memorial Award. His Jem (1979) won a National Book Award. He won four Hugo and three Nebula Awards. In addition to his fiction, Pohl was a highly successful editor of two science fiction magazines, Galaxy and If, where he launched many other writers who would themselves become famous. He edited numerous anthologies and frequently reviewed the works of others. He was an observant writer about science fiction in print and on his award-winning blog. Pohl published his first story in 1937 and as recently as 2011 published a novel, All the Lives He Led. In the interval he published more than twenty novels, as many collections of short stories, a memoir, and scores of essays and reviews. This book will be the first overview of his long and highly productive career"--$cProvided by publisher. 330 $a"One of science fiction's undisputed grandmasters, Frederik Pohl built an astonishing career that spanned more than seven decades. Along the way he won millions of readers and seemingly as many awards while producing novels, short stories, and essays that left a profound mark on the genre. In this first-of-its-kind study, Michael R. Page traces Pohl's journey as an author but also uncovers his role as a transformative figure who shaped the genre as a literary agent, book editor, and in Gardner Dozois' words, "quite probably the best SF magazine editor who ever lived.""--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aModern masters of science fiction. 606 $aScience fiction, American$xHistory and criticism 606 $aAuthors, American$y20th century$vBiography 606 $aAuthors, American$y21st century$vBiography 615 0$aScience fiction, American$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aAuthors, American 615 0$aAuthors, American 676 $a813/.54 686 $aLIT004260$aBIO007000$2bisacsh 700 $aPage$b Michael R.$f1967-$01709663 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910819377603321 996 $aFrederik Pohl$94099592 997 $aUNINA LEADER 07972nam 22007455 450 001 9910585768503321 005 20251225212300.0 010 $a981-19-4546-2 024 7 $a10.1007/978-981-19-4546-5 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC7047332 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL7047332 035 $a(CKB)24286020300041 035 $a(PPN)263898288 035 $a(BIP)85117723 035 $a(BIP)84445977 035 $a(DE-He213)978-981-19-4546-5 035 $a(EXLCZ)9924286020300041 100 $a20220719d2022 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aComputer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing $e16th CCF Conference, ChineseCSCW 2021, Xiangtan, China, November 26?28, 2021, Revised Selected Papers, Part I /$fedited by Yuqing Sun, Tun Lu, Buqing Cao, Hongfei Fan, Dongning Liu, Bowen Du, Liping Gao 205 $a1st ed. 2022. 210 1$aSingapore :$cSpringer Nature Singapore :$cImprint: Springer,$d2022. 215 $a1 online resource (650 pages) 225 1 $aCommunications in Computer and Information Science,$x1865-0937 ;$v1491 311 08$aPrint version: Sun, Yuqing Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing Singapore : Springer,c2022 9789811945458 327 $aCollaborative Mechanisms, Models, Approaches, Algorithms and Systems -- Decentralized Predictive Enterprise Resource Planning Framework on Private Blockchain Networks using Neural Networks -- Fine-grained Diagnosis Method for Microservice Faults Based on Hierarchical Correlation Analysis -- Two-Stage Clustering for Federated Learning with Pseudo Mini-Batch SGD Training on Non-IID Data -- Elastic Container Scheduling for stochastically arrived workflows in Cloud and Edge Computing -- Modeling Method for Function Trees Guided by the Symmetric Quintuple Implicational Controller -- An adaptive and collaborative method based on GMRA for Intrusion detection -- The Scheduling Model of Forest Fire-Extinguishing Resources and Its Simulation -- Research on Data Dynamic Adjustment Method Considering Security Requirements in Cloud Computing Environment -- Optimal Storage Cloud Data Recoverability Audit Method Based on Regenerative Code -- A Three-Way Group Decision-Making Approach Based on Mixture Risk -- Fog Computing Federated Learning System Framework For Smart Healthcare -- Research on Temporal Workflow Task Assignment Strategy -- Intrusion Detection Algorithm of Industrial Control System Based on Improved Bloom Filter -- A Novel Traversal Search-based D2D Collaborative Offloading Approach for Workflow Application in Dynamic Edge Environment -- A Road Congestion Detection Model Based on Sequence Change of Vehicle Feature Matrix -- Resource Scheduling Method Based on Microservices -- A Novel Construction Approach for Dehazing Dataset Based on Realistic Rendering Engine -- Cooperative Evolutionary Computation and Human-like Intelligent Collaboration -- Differential Evolution Algorithm Based on Adaptive Rank exponent and Parameters -- Information Centrality Evaluation Method Based on Cascade Topological Relevance -- Marine Predators Algorithm with Stage-Based Repairment for the Green Supply Network Design.
