This book draws on a range of theory to analyze and interpret this movement, which is intent on creating a model of church, that examples Vatican II's open, receptive attitude toward the modern world. In response to backlash from church officials, the movement has increasingly abandoned effort to reform Roman Catholicism from within, and has moved in a sectarian direction by creating independent worship communities. The movement faces a precarious future due to its rapidly aging membership and the unstable nature of its newly-formed communities. 410 0$aStudies in critical social sciences.$pStudies in critical research on religion ;$vv. 2. 410 0$aStudies in critical social sciences ;$vv. 40. 606 $aChurch renewal$xCatholic Church 606 $aLaity$zUnited States$xHistory$y21st century 606 $aLaity$xCatholic Church$xHistory$y21st century 606 $aLiberalism (Religion)$xCatholic Church 615 0$aChurch renewal$xCatholic Church. 615 0$aLaity$xHistory 615 0$aLaity$xCatholic Church$xHistory 615 0$aLiberalism (Religion)$xCatholic Church. 676 $a282/.7309045 700 $aKautzer$b Kathleen$01630022 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910819220603321 996 $aThe underground church$93968087 997 $aUNINA
