Military organization and siege warfare -- part II. Corpus Obsidionum (catalog of sieges). 330 $aSiege Warfare and Military Organization in the Successor States is the first study to comprehensively treat an aspect of Byzantine, Western, early Islamic, Slavic and Steppe military history within the framework of common descent from Roman military organization to 800 AD. This not only encompassed the army proper, but also a greater complex of client management, private military retinues, labor obligations and civilian conscription in urban defense that were systematically developed by the Romans around 400, and survived to be adopted and adapted by all successors. The result was a common post-Roman military culture suitable for more restrained economic circumstances but still able to maintain, defend and attack city walls with skills rivalling those of their Roman forebears. 410 0$aHistory of warfare ;$vv. 91. 606 $aSiege warfare$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aSieges$xHistory$yTo 1500 606 $aMilitary art and science$xHistory$yMedieval, 500-1500 607 $aByzantine Empire$xHistory, Military 607 $aIslamic Empire$xHistory, Military 607 $aEurope$xHistory, Military$yTo 1500 615 0$aSiege warfare$xHistory 615 0$aSieges$xHistory 615 0$aMilitary art and science$xHistory 676 $a355.4/4095609021 700 $aPetersen$b Leif Inge Ree$01667268 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910816800203321 996 $aSiege warfare and military organization in the successor states (400-800 AD)$94027002 997 $aUNINA
