In this book, Arakaki provides the first comprehensive analysis of Luchuan evidentials. She proposes that Luchuan has a grammatical evidential system which contains one Direct evidential and three indirect evidentials (Inference, Assumed, and Reportative). The discussion includes cross-linguistic issues such as how evidentiality is related to epistemic modality, with the intention that this work should constitute a contribution to the typological and theoretical study of evidentiality. This work will open new horizons for the study of evidentiality. 410 0$aBrill's Studies in Language, Cognition and Culture$v4. 606 $aJapanese language$xDialects$xHistory 606 $aRyukyuan language$xDialects 606 $aRyukyuan language$xGrammar, Comparative$xJapanese 606 $aRyukyuan language$xGrammar 606 $aRyukyuan language$vTerms and phrases 615 0$aJapanese language$xDialects$xHistory. 615 0$aRyukyuan language$xDialects. 615 0$aRyukyuan language$xGrammar, Comparative$xJapanese. 615 0$aRyukyuan language$xGrammar. 615 0$aRyukyuan language 676 $a495.6 700 $aArakaki$b Tomoko$01704761 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910815470603321 996 $aEvidentials in Ryukyuan$94090976 997 $aUNINA
