At the dock stood a twenty-five year old former Trinity College student and doctor's son. His name was Robert Emmet and he was standing trial for heading a rebellion on 23 July 1803. The iconic power of Robert Emmet in Irish history cannot be overstated. Emmet looms large in narratives of the past, yet the rebellion, which he led, remains to be fully contextualised. Patterson's book repairs this omission and explains the complex process of politicisation and revolutionary activity extending. 606 $aAgriculture$xEconomic aspects$zIreland 606 $aRepublicanism$zIreland 606 $aInsurgency$zIreland$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aMilitia movements$zIreland 607 $aIreland$xEconomic conditions$y18th century 607 $aIreland$xHistory$yRebellion of 1798 607 $aIreland$xHistory$yEmmet's Rebellion, 1803 607 $aIreland$xHistory$y1800-1837 607 $aIreland$xEconomic conditions$y19th century 610 $aIrish history. 610 $aRobert Emmet. 610 $aTrinity College. 610 $agrass roots. 610 $apara-militarism. 610 $apoliticisation. 610 $aradicalisation. 610 $arebellion. 610 $arevolutionary activity. 610 $asecret societies. 615 0$aAgriculture$xEconomic aspects 615 0$aRepublicanism 615 0$aInsurgency$xHistory 615 0$aMilitia movements 676 $a941.507 700 $aPatterson$b James G.$f1958-$01698979 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910814280303321 996 $aIn the wake of the Great Rebellion$94080886 997 $aUNINA
