He addresses many troubling issues, including the conflict in Afghanistan where Canadian soldiers potentially contravened Canada's international treaties handing over prisoners to the United States. He also discusses Canadian territorial sovereignty in the context of U.S. 'homeland security' as well as international inaction on conflicts in Africa that resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people."--Jacket. 410 0$aSenator Keith Davey lecture series. 606 $aLiberalism$zCanada 607 $aCanada$xForeign relations$y1945- 607 $aCanada$xForeign relations$zUnited States 607 $aUnited States$xForeign relations$zCanada 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aLiberalism 676 $a971.0648 700 $aAxworthy$b Lloyd$01523739 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910780521603321 996 $aLiberals at the border$93764049 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04410nam 2200673 450 001 9910813982903321 005 20210706020507.0 010 $a0-7735-8966-X 010 $a0-7735-8965-1 024 7 $a10.1515/9780773589650 035 $a(cabnvsl)mat41794388 035 $a(cabnvsl)9780773589650 035 $a(CKB)2550000001140887 035 $a(EBL)3332636 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001151073 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11703045 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001151073 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11105429 035 $a(PQKB)11414607 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3332636 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10787149 035 $a(OCoLC)847332530 035 $a(DE-B1597)658072 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780773589650 035 $a(VaAlCD)20.500.12592/qvzp5z 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3332636 035 $a(EXLCZ)992550000001140887 100 $a20131109d2013 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 14$aThe return of ancestral gods $emodern Ukrainian Paganism as an alternative vision for a nation /$fMariya Lesiv 210 1$aMontréal, Québec :$cMcGill-Queen's University Press,$d2013. 210 4$d{copy}2013 215 $a1 online resource (238 pages) 225 1 $aMcGill-Queen's Studies in Ethnic History. Drawing inspiration from the spiritual life of past millennia, they strive to return to the pre-Christian roots of their ancestors. Since Christianity dominates the spiritual discourse in Ukraine, Pagans are marginalized, and their ideas are perceived as radical. In The Return of Ancestral Gods, Mariya Lesiv explores Pagan beliefs and practices in Ukraine and amongst the North American Ukrainian diaspora. Drawing on intensive fieldwork, archival documents, and published sources not available in English, she allows the voices of Pagans to be heard. Paganism in Slavic countries is heavily charged with ethno-nationalist politics, and previous scholarship has mainly focused on this aspect. Lesiv finds it important to consider not only how Paganism is preached but also the way that it is understood on a private level. She shows that many Ukrainians embrace Paganism because of its aesthetic aspects rather than its associated politics and discusses the role that aesthetics may play in the further development of Ukrainian Paganism. Paganism in Eastern Europe remains underrepresented within Pagan studies, and this work helps to fill that gap. Extensive comparative references to various forms of Western Paganism allows English-speaking readers to better understand the world of Ukrainian Pagans. 410 0$aMcGill-Queen's studies in ethnic history.$nSeries two ;$v65. 606 $aPaganism$zUkraine 606 $aNeopaganism$zUkraine 607 $aUkraine$xReligion 615 0$aPaganism 615 0$aNeopaganism 676 $a299.94 700 $aLesiv$b Mariya$01665135 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910813982903321 996 $aThe return of ancestral gods$94023589 997 $aUNINA
