Cosmopatriots navigate between a loyalty to the home country and a sense of longing for and belonging to the world. Rather than searching for the truly globalized cosmopolitans, the authors of this collection look for the postcolonial, rooted cosmopolitans who insist on thinking and feeling simultaneously beyond and within the nation. The cultural sites they discuss include Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Singapore, the United States, South Korea and Australia. They show how media from both sides of the arbitrary divide between high art and popular culture ? including film, literature, the fine arts, radio, music, television and mobile phones ? function as vehicles for the creation and expression of, or reflection upon, intersections between patriotism and cosmopolitanism. 410 0$aThamyris intersecting ;$vno. 16. 606 $aCosmopolitanism$zEast Asia 606 $aCosmopolitanism$zSoutheast Asia 606 $aNationalism$zEast Asia 606 $aNationalism$zSoutheast Asia 606 $aPopular culture$zEast Asia 606 $aPopular culture$zSoutheast Asia 615 0$aCosmopolitanism 615 0$aCosmopolitanism 615 0$aNationalism 615 0$aNationalism 615 0$aPopular culture 615 0$aPopular culture 676 $a306.0959 701 $aJurrie?ns$b Edwin$f1972-$0881539 701 $aKloet$b Jeroen de$0881540 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910778243903321 996 $aCosmopatriots$93834125 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03029nam 2200481 450 001 9910813359603321 005 20230814225335.0 010 $a90-04-37523-6 024 7 $a10.1163/9789004375239 035 $a(CKB)4100000007123706 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5570492 035 $a(nllekb)BRILL9789004375239 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5570492 035 $a(OCoLC)1043953497 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007123706 100 $a20220526d2018 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aPedagogies for building cultures of peace $echallenging constructions of an enemy /$fCatherine Baillie Abidi 210 1$aLeiden :$cBrill,$d[2018] 210 4$d©2018 215 $a1 online resource (vii, 140 pages) 225 1 $aInternational issues in adult education ;$vVolume 25 311 $a90-04-37522-8 327 $aFront Matter -- Copyright page -- Contents -- Acknowledgements -- Introduction and Positionality -- Peacebuilding ? Findings show the diverse ways in which enmity (or the dehumanized other) is constructed, including through socialization processes, associating difference as deficient, systems of exclusion, disengaged citizenship, and cultures of competition and rivalry. Results also show how critical adult education can reveal hidden forms of power embedded within normalizations of violence, creating opportunities for peacebuilding education. By collaboratively engaging in peace research with youth, and by explicitly exploring power as a central component of violence, violence transformation and peacebuilding education led by youth become imaginable. 410 0$aInternational Issues in Adult Education$v25. 606 $aPeace$xStudy and teaching 606 $aPeace-building$xStudy and teaching 615 0$aPeace$xStudy and teaching. 615 0$aPeace-building$xStudy and teaching. 676 $a303.66 700 $aBaillie Abidi$b Catherine$01658934 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910813359603321 996 $aPedagogies for building cultures of peace$94013282 997 $aUNINA
