There has been much scepticism about traditional healers but, as this report shows, they can play a prominent role in caring for people living with HIV/AIDS, as well as in prevention activities. This report describes three initiatives-in Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania and Uganda-that have narrowed the gap between the traditional and biomedical health systems. The report also includes anecdotal accounts by traditional healers themselves, as well as details of training provided to the healers, and lessons learned from each of the three initiatives. 410 0$aUNAIDS best practice collection. 410 0$aUNAIDS case study. 606 $aAIDS (Disease)$zAfrica, East$xPrevention 606 $aAIDS (Disease)$xTreatment$zAfrica, East 606 $aAIDS (Disease)$xAlternative treatment$zAfrica, East 606 $aTraditional medicine$zAfrica, East 606 $aHealing$zAfrica, East 615 0$aAIDS (Disease)$xPrevention. 615 0$aAIDS (Disease)$xTreatment 615 0$aAIDS (Disease)$xAlternative treatment 615 0$aTraditional medicine 615 0$aHealing 676 $a362.1/969792/009676 700 $aKing$b Rachel$01187467 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910813022503321 996 $aAncient remedies, new disease$93925375 997 $aUNINA
