The six-year study secured multi-setting field data in primary, secondary and casual sites, and audio-taped narrative life stories from men and women who harvest and perform the related tasks that help to make the many foods which we enjoy in abundance. The study presented in this book elaborates vignettes from field observations with a focus on workers who use drugs and alcohol, and is complemented by formal (narrative life stories) and informal interviews. The author explores diverse field data that reveal the hardships, exclusion and social adversities that migrant farm workers experience many times more often than any other social group with considerable susceptibility to drug / alcohol use. Down Country Lanes, Behind Abandoned Houses gives readers a perspective about farm workers' social vulnerability across multiple agricultural areas, while comparing willful neglect and social non-existence experienced by farm workers to a gray zone of contemporary horrors in the way that these men and women have been viewed and treated over many decades. The monograph is an invaluable reference for the study of social problems, substance abuse, trans-national migratory experiences and field methods in sociology. The book also serves as a contemporary handbook on the anthropology of American agricultural labor. 606 $aEthnology 606 $aSocial anthropology 610 $aMigrant Agricultural Laborers 610 $aAgriculture 610 $aSocial Science 610 $aTechnology & Engineering 615 0$aEthnology. 615 0$aSocial anthropology. 676 $a331.5440973 700 $aBletzer$b Keith V$01643680 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910812493403321 996 $aDown Country Lanes, Behind Abandoned Houses$93989081 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01102cam a2200301 i 4500 001 991003616839707536 005 20250403105730.0 008 020510s1994 it 001 0 ita d 020 $a884204380X 035 $ab11839636-39ule_inst 035 $aLE02736847$9ExL 040 $aDip.to Studi Giuridici$bita$dSocioculturale Scs 041 0 $aita 082 0 $a321.02 100 1 $aCiuffoletti, Zeffiro$223$0136737 245 10$aFederalismo e regionalismo :$bda Cattaneo alla Lega /$cZeffiro Ciuffoletti 260 $aRoma :$bLaterza,$c1994 300 $aXI, 198 p. ;$c22 cm 490 1 $aQuadrante ;$v63 650 4$aFederalismo$zItalia$ySec. 19.-20.$xStoria 650 4$aRegionalismo$zItalia$ySec. 19.-20.$xStoria 830 0$aQuadrante ;$v63 907 $a.b11839636$b27-04-17$c20-12-02 912 $a991003616839707536 945 $aLE027 321.02 CIU01.01$g1$i2027000031351$lle027$nDono prof.
