Among these, we find the Salafi movement which expanded rapidly throughout the 1990's, particularly in the Oromo-speaking south-eastern parts of the country. This book sheds light on the emergence and expansion of Salafism in Bale. Focusing on the diversified body of situated actors and their role in the process of religious change, it discusses the early arrival of Salafism in the late 1960's, follows it through the Marxist period (1974-1991) before discussing the rapid expansion of the movement in the 1990's. The movement?s dynamics and the controversies emerging as a result of the reforms are discussed, particularly with reference to different understandings of sources for religious knowledge and the role of Islamic literacy. 410 0$aIslam in Africa ;$vv. 12. 606 $aIslam$zEthiopia$xHistory 606 $aSalafi?Iyah$zEthiopia 606 $aOromo (African people)$zEthiopia 615 0$aIslam$xHistory. 615 0$aSalafi?Iyah 615 0$aOromo (African people) 676 $a297.8/3 700 $aØstebø$b Terje$01217563 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910812343303321 996 $aLocalising Salafism$93952713 997 $aUNINA
