Drawing on a redefinition of royal descent and a comparative literary analysis of primary sources, this book restores the pre-Hispanic voices embedded in the chronicles. It identifies two distinctive bodies of Inca oral traditions, each of which encloses a mutually conflicting representation of the past that, considered together, reproduces patterns of Cuzco?s moiety division. Building on this new insight, the author revisits dual representations in the cosmology and ritual calendar of the ruling elite. The result is a fresh contribution to ethnohistorical works that have explored native ways of constructing history. 410 0$aThe Early Americas: History and Culture$v3. 606 $aIncas$zPeru$zCuzco$xHistoriography 606 $aIncas$zPeru$zCuzco$xKings and rulers 606 $aInca cosmology$zPeru$zCuzco 606 $aInca calendar$zPeru$zCuzco 607 $aCuzco (Peru)$xHistory$vSources 615 0$aIncas$xHistoriography. 615 0$aIncas$xKings and rulers. 615 0$aInca cosmology 615 0$aInca calendar 676 $a985/.37 700 $aYaya$b Isabel$01673580 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910811414103321 996 $aThe two faces of Inca history$94037746 997 $aUNINA
