Die ,Sabbahtische Seelenlust' stellt einen herausragenden Meilenstein in der frühneuzeitlichen Gattungsgeschichte der Perikopenlyrik dar, innerhalb derer vor Rist Autoren wie Johann Heermann, Andreas Gryphius sowie manche Verfasser aus dem Kreis des Nürnberger Pegnesischen Blumenordens, etwa Philipp Georg Harsdörffer, stilbildend gewirkt hatten. Überdies dokumentiert die ,Sabbahtische Seelenlust' Rists erstmalige Kooperation mit dem renommierten Hamburger Domkantor und Musikdirektor an den Haupt- und Nebenkirchen Thomas Selle, die sich später
