Wei identifies two divergent, or even opposite strategies for appropriating Western detective fiction during the late Qing and the Republican periods. She further argues that these two periods in the domestication of detective fiction were also connected by shared emotions. Both periods expressed ambivalent and sometimes contradictory views regarding Chinese tradition and Western modernity. 410 0$aSinica Leidensia ;$vVolume 150. 606 $aDetective and mystery stories, Chinese$xHistory and criticism 606 $aChinese fiction$y20th century$xHistory and criticism 615 0$aDetective and mystery stories, Chinese$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aChinese fiction$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a895.13087209 700 $aWei$b Yan$01229788 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910810194803321 996 $aDetecting Chinese modernities$93958337 997 $aUNINA
