When produced in its full-length form, adiponectin self-associates to generate multimeric complexes. The full-length form of adiponectin can be cleaved by the globular form of elastase that is produced locally, and the resulting biological effects are exerted in a paracrine or autocrine manner. The different forms of adiponectin bind to specific receptors consisting of two G-protein-independent, seven-transmembrane-spanning receptors, called AdipoR1 and AdipoR2, while T-cadherin has been identified as a potential receptor for high molecular weight complexes of adiponectin. Adiponectin exerts a key role in cellular metabolism, regulating glucose levels as well as fatty acid breakdown. However, its biological effects are heterogeneous, involving multiple target tissues. The Special Issue "Mechanisms of Adiponectin Action" highlights the pleiotropic role of this hormone through 3 research articles and 7 reviews. These papers focus on the recent knowledge regarding adiponectin in different target tissues, both in healthy and in diseased conditions. 610 $aacidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) 610 $aregeneration 610 $afertility 610 $apig 610 $aendocrine cancer 610 $aNGF? 610 $areproductive tract 610 $aneuritogenesis 610 $askeletal muscle 610 $amatricellular proteins 610 $aadiponectin isoforms 610 $aobesity 610 $aatherosclerosis 610 $ahair growth-related factor 610 $aovarian cancer 610 $aadipose tissue 610 $aAdipoRon 610 $aextracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 610 $aPC12 cells 610 $aendometrial cancer 610 $aAMPK 610 $ametabolism 610 $aadiponectin 610 $atranscriptome 610 $aexercise 610 $atraining 610 $ainflammation 610 $aBIAcore 610 $amuscle 610 $aadipokines 610 $ahuman follicular dermal papilla cell 610 $aestrogen receptor 610 $aendometrium 610 $aadiponectin inducer 610 $abreast cancer 610 $aimplantation 610 $amicroarray 610 $aSecreted protein 610 $aadipogenesis 610 $akojyl cinnamate ester derivative 610 $acell signaling 610 $alipotoxicity 610 $acervix cancer 610 $acancer 610 $acholesterol efflux 610 $amyopathies 610 $adiabetes 700 $aFiaschi$b Tania$01338980 801 0$bScCtBLL 801 1$bScCtBLL 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910673903503321 996 $aMechanisms of Adiponectin Action$93059356 997 $aUNINA
