As a result individuals with scientific interests in Africa came to the Cape. This book examines writings and drawings of scientifically educated travellers, particularly in the field of ethnography, against the background of commercial and administrative discourses on the Cape. It is argued that the scientific travellers benefited more from their relationship with the colonial order than the other way around. 410 0$aAtlantic world (Leiden, Netherlands) ;$vv. 18. 606 $aTravelers$zSouth Africa$zCape of Good Hope$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aEuropeans$zSouth Africa$zCape of Good Hope$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aEthnology$zSouth Africa$zCape of Good Hope$xHistory$y18th century 606 $aEthnological expeditions$zSouth Africa$zCape of Good Hope$xHistory$y18th century 607 $aCape of Good Hope (South Africa)$xDescription and travel 607 $aCape of Good Hope (South Africa)$xDescription and travel$vSources 607 $aSouth Africa$xHistory$yTo 1836 607 $aSouth Africa$xColonial influence 607 $aSouth Africa$xDescription and travel 607 $aSouth Africa$xDescription and travel$vSources 615 0$aTravelers$xHistory 615 0$aEuropeans$xHistory 615 0$aEthnology$xHistory 615 0$aEthnological expeditions$xHistory 676 $a968.03 686 $a15.59$2bcl 700 $aHuigen$b Siegfried$01618246 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910809777603321 996 $aKnowledge and colonialism$94071865 997 $aUNINA
