Edelman. 330 $aInternational publishing in the Netherlands had a glorious tradition in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. A remarkable revival took place after 1933, when several Dutch publishers began to issue books written by exiles of the Nazi regime in the German language. The decline of German scholarly and scientific publishing during the same time inspired a number of other Dutch publishers to expand their programs or start new ones. As the English language became more prominent internationally, enterprising Dutch publishers began to explore these markets as well. After the Germans invaded the Netherlands, a number of printers began to produce finely printed books and pamphlets in many languages clandestinely, as an act of defiance or to raise money for underground causes. This book documents these trends and events in the form of a series of bio-bibliographical portraits of the major participating publishers. 410 0$aLibrary of the written word.$pIndustrial world ;$vv. 3. 410 0$aIndustrial world ;$vv. 3. 606 $aPublishers and publishing$zNetherlands$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aGerman imprints$xPublishing$zNetherlands$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aExiles' writings, German$xPublishing$zNetherlands$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aForeign language publications$xPublishing$zNetherlands$xHistory$y20th century 606 $aPublishers and publishing$zNetherlands$xHistory 606 $aPublishers and publishing$zNetherlands$vBiography 606 $aForeign language publications$zNetherlands$vBibliography 607 $aNetherlands$vImprints 615 0$aPublishers and publishing$xHistory 615 0$aGerman imprints$xPublishing$xHistory 615 0$aExiles' writings, German$xPublishing$xHistory 615 0$aForeign language publications$xPublishing$xHistory 615 0$aPublishers and publishing$xHistory. 615 0$aPublishers and publishing 615 0$aForeign language publications 676 $a070.5/09492 700 $aEdelman$b Hendrik$01690230 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910809728003321 996 $aInternational publishing in the Netherlands, 1933-1945$94065822 997 $aUNINA
