Mann details a community effort to establish a shelter for abused women in a small Ontario municipality. While other literature presents the ostensibly cohesive views of particular interest groups on the issue of domestic violence, Mann exposes the conflicts that actually occur, and the ways these conflicts fuel unintended outcomes. In "Who Owns Domestic Abuse? The Local Politics of a Social Problem," the author ventures bravely into the politically charged debate over the definition of abuse, and emphasizes the fact that 'owning' a problem does not ensure the possession of viable answers. Rather than promoting a particular response to such problems, Mann uses personal accounts of abuse to make a space for the diverse perspectives of abused women and abusive men. She urges activists and intervenors to argue less and listen more. 606 $aWomen's shelters$xPolitical aspects$zOntario$vCase studies 606 $aFamily violence$xGovernment policy$zOntario$vCase studies 606 $aWomen$xAbuse of$zOntario$vCase studies 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aWomen's shelters$xPolitical aspects 615 0$aFamily violence$xGovernment policy 615 0$aWomen$xAbuse of 676 $a305.420971 700 $aMann$b Ruth M$g(Ruth Marie),$f1947-$01035612 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910456179103321 996 $aWho owns domestic abuse$92455403 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02114nam 2200445 450 001 9910807290103321 005 20230807202057.0 010 $a0-500-77295-9 035 $a(CKB)4100000009153995 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5878073 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000009153995 100 $a20190928d2015 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aBlood of the Celts $ethe new ancestral story /$fJean Manco 210 1$aLondon ;$aNew York, New York :$cThames & Hudson,$d[2015] 210 4$d©2015 215 $a1 online resource (240 pages) $cillustrations, maps 311 $a0-500-05183-6 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references (pages 219-232) and index. 327 $aThe voices of the Celts -- The Gauls and Celtic -- Bell beakers and language -- The Indo-European family -- Stelae to bell beaker -- The iron sword -- On the move -- Celts vs. Romans -- Christian Celts -- Loss and revival -- Appendix: surnames and DNA. 330 8 $aThe heritage of the Celts turns up from Portugal to Romania, from Scotland to Spain. Yet debate continues about who exactly were the Celts, where ultimately they came from, and whether the modern Celtic-speakers of the British Isles and Brittany are related to the Continental Celts we know from ancient history. So a fresh approach is needed. Blood of the Celts meets this challenge, pulling together evidence from genetics, archaeology, history and linguistics in an accessible and illuminating way, taking the reader on a voyage of discovery from the origins of the ancient Celts to the modern Celtic Revival, with some startling results. 606 $aCelts 606 $aCelts$xHistory 606 $aCelts$xOrigin 615 0$aCelts. 615 0$aCelts$xHistory. 615 0$aCelts$xOrigin. 676 $a930 700 $aManco$b Jean$01722822 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910807290103321 996 $aBlood of the Celts$94123536 997 $aUNINA
