The new estimates confirm the key results reported in Coe and Helpman about the impact of domestic and foreign R&D capital stocks on TFP. In addition, we show that domestic and foreign R&D capital stocks have measurable impacts on TFP even after controlling for the impact of human capital. Furthermore, we extend the analysis to include institutional variables, such as legal origin and patent protection, in order to allow for parameter heterogeneity based on a country's institutional characteristics. The results suggest that institutional differences are important determinants of total factor productivity and that they impact the degree of R&D spillovers. 410 0$aIMF Working Papers; Working Paper ;$vNo. 2008/104 606 $aInvestments: Stocks$2imf 606 $aLabor$2imf 606 $aMacroeconomics$2imf 606 $aAgribusiness$2imf 606 $aProduction and Operations Management$2imf 606 $aProduction$2imf 606 $aCost$2imf 606 $aCapital and Total Factor Productivity$2imf 606 $aCapacity$2imf 606 $aAgricultural Markets and Marketing$2imf 606 $aCooperatives$2imf 606 $aHuman Capital$2imf 606 $aSkills$2imf 606 $aOccupational Choice$2imf 606 $aLabor Productivity$2imf 606 $aPension Funds$2imf 606 $aNon-bank Financial Institutions$2imf 606 $aFinancial Instruments$2imf 606 $aInstitutional Investors$2imf 606 $aExternalities$2imf 606 $aAgriculture, agribusiness & food production industries$2imf 606 $aLabour$2imf 606 $aincome economics$2imf 606 $aInvestment & securities$2imf 606 $aTotal factor productivity$2imf 606 $aAgroindustries$2imf 606 $aHuman capital$2imf 606 $aStocks$2imf 606 $aSpillovers$2imf 606 $aIndustrial productivity$2imf 606 $aAgricultural industries$2imf 606 $aInternational finance$2imf 607 $aUnited States$2imf 615 7$aInvestments: Stocks 615 7$aLabor 615 7$aMacroeconomics 615 7$aAgribusiness 615 7$aProduction and Operations Management 615 7$aProduction 615 7$aCost 615 7$aCapital and Total Factor Productivity 615 7$aCapacity 615 7$aAgricultural Markets and Marketing 615 7$aCooperatives 615 7$aHuman Capital 615 7$aSkills 615 7$aOccupational Choice 615 7$aLabor Productivity 615 7$aPension Funds 615 7$aNon-bank Financial Institutions 615 7$aFinancial Instruments 615 7$aInstitutional Investors 615 7$aExternalities 615 7$aAgriculture, agribusiness & food production industries 615 7$aLabour 615 7$aincome economics 615 7$aInvestment & securities 615 7$aTotal factor productivity 615 7$aAgroindustries 615 7$aHuman capital 615 7$aStocks 615 7$aSpillovers 615 7$aIndustrial productivity 615 7$aAgricultural industries 615 7$aInternational finance 676 $a338.124592 700 $aHoffmaister$b Willy$01609990 701 $aCoe$b David$01717634 701 $aHelpman$b Elhanan$0128673 801 0$bDcWaIMF 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910807166903321 996 $aInternational R&D Spillovers and Institutions$94114018 997 $aUNINA
