The book introduces readers to basic concepts of gender equality, equity and equal opportunities, then discusses measuring these phenomena, the methods of constructing indicators, and reviews the main indicators that have been proposed at the international level to measure gender equality. It then sets the theoretical discussions against the findings from a Jean Monnet project financed by the European Union to highlight the importance of a regional analysis of gender equality in four main study areas: Italy, Spain, France and Germany. The results make it clear that it is necessary to move from the purely national perspective hitherto used in gender equality analyses to a regional one because differences can be highly pronounced even within the same country. This is a self-contained volume requiring limited statistical expertise for the reader and is aimed at social researchers andpolicymakers who wish to address gender equality from a quantitative perspective. 410 0$aSocial Indicators Research Series,$x2215-0099 ;$v87 606 $aSex 606 $aWell-being 606 $aSocial sciences$xStatistical methods 606 $aQuality of life 606 $aGender Studies 606 $aWell-Being 606 $aStatistics in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education, Behavorial Sciences, Public Policy 606 $aQuality of Life Research 615 0$aSex. 615 0$aWell-being. 615 0$aSocial sciences$xStatistical methods. 615 0$aQuality of life. 615 14$aGender Studies. 615 24$aWell-Being. 615 24$aStatistics in Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education, Behavorial Sciences, Public Policy. 615 24$aQuality of Life Research. 676 $a305.3 700 $adi Bella$b Enrico$01585534 701 $aFachelli$b Sandra$01585535 701 $aLo?pez-Rolda?n$b Pedro$00 701 $aSuter$b Christian$f1956-$0143569 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910799279503321 996 $aMeasuring Gender Equality$93870705 997 $aUNINA
