In The Para-State, Aldo Civico draws on interviews with paramilitary death squads and drug lords to provide a cultural interpretation of the country's history of violence and state control. Between 2003 and 2008, Civico gained unprecedented access to some of Colombia's most notorious leaders of the death squads. He also conducted interviews with the victims of paramilitary, with drug kingpins, and with vocal public supporters of the paramilitary groups. Drawing on the work of Deleuze and Guattari, this riveting work demonstrates how the paramilitaries have in essence become a war machine deployed by the Colombian state to control and maintain its territory and political legitimacy. 606 $aDeath squads$zColombia 606 $aParamilitary forces$zColombia 610 $a21st century colombia. 610 $acacique nutibara. 610 $acali cartel. 610 $acolombian cartel. 610 $acolombian control of citizenry. 610 $acolombian death squads. 610 $acolombian drug lords. 610 $acolombian drug trade. 610 $acolombian drug war. 610 $acolombian paramilitary. 610 $acolombian political violence. 610 $acolombian politics. 610 $acolombias drug kingpins. 610 $ahistory of violence in colombia. 610 $aparamilitary action in colombia. 610 $aparamilitary death squads. 610 $astate control in colombia. 610 $aviolence in colombia. 615 0$aDeath squads 615 0$aParamilitary forces 676 $a986.106/35 700 $aCivico$b Aldo$01575267 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910797754203321 996 $aThe Para-state$93852073 997 $aUNINA
