Around 10% of the captives were ransomed the next twenty years, mostly through the efforts of the Danish monarchy. In this volume, the history of these extraordinary events and their long-lasting memory are traced and analysed from the viewpoints of maritime warfare, cultural encounters and existential options, based on extensive use of various sources from several languages. 410 0$aHistory of Warfare$v119. 606 $aHistoriography$zIceland 606 $aPiracy$zIceland$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aPirates$zAfrica, North$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aCollective memory$zIceland 606 $aCollective memory$2fast 606 $aHistoriography$2fast 606 $aPiracy$2fast 606 $aPirates$2fast 607 $aAfrica, North$2fast 607 $aIceland$2fast 608 $aHistory.$2fast 615 0$aHistoriography 615 0$aPiracy$xHistory 615 0$aPirates$xHistory 615 0$aCollective memory 615 7$aCollective memory. 615 7$aHistoriography. 615 7$aPiracy. 615 7$aPirates. 676 $a949.12/03 700 $aŜorsteinn Helgason$01571461 801 0$bNL-LeKB 801 1$bNL-LeKB 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796779803321 996 $aThe corsairs' longest voyage$93845870 997 $aUNINA
