Fictions of the self and the state : gender and innocence. 330 $aInterpreting textual mediations of history in early modernity, this volume adds nuance to our understanding of the contributions fiction and fictionalizing make to the shape and texture of versions of and debates about history during that period. Geographically, the scope of the essays extends beyond Europe and England to include Asia and Africa. Contributors take a number of different approaches to understand the relationship between history, fiction, and broader themes in early modern culture. They analyze the ways fiction writers use historical sources, fictional texts translate ideas about the past into a vernacular accessible to broad audiences, fictional depictions and interpretations shape historical action, and the ways in which nonfictional texts and accounts were given fictional histories of their own, intentionally or not, through transmission and interpretation. By combining the already contested idea of fiction with performance, action, and ideas/ideology, this collection provides a more thorough consideration of fictional histories in the early modern period. It also covers more than two centuries of primary material, providing a longer perspective on the changing and complex role of history in forming early modern national, gendered, and cultural identities. 606 $aProse literature$yEarly modern, 1500-1700$xHistory and criticism 606 $aLiterature and society$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aLiterature and history$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aLiterature and history$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aLiterature and society$xHistory$y17th century 606 $aImagination$xHistory$y16th century 606 $aImagination$xHistory$y17th century 615 0$aProse literature$xHistory and criticism. 615 0$aLiterature and society$xHistory 615 0$aLiterature and history$xHistory 615 0$aLiterature and history$xHistory 615 0$aLiterature and society$xHistory 615 0$aImagination$xHistory 615 0$aImagination$xHistory 676 $a809/.933582 701 $aKavey$b Allison$f1977-$0876565 701 $aKetner$b Elizabeth$01486592 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796678003321 996 $aImagining early modern histories$93706138 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01698nam 2200517 450 001 9910827592703321 005 20230807210044.0 035 $a(CKB)2670000000608134 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001562122 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)16204813 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001562122 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)14833017 035 $a(PQKB)10375505 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC3051802 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL3051802 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr11046893 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL762975 035 $a(OCoLC)907560295 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000608134 100 $a20150508h20152015 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aFrom Islamic revivalism to Islamic radicalism in Southeast Asia $ea study of Jama'ah Tabligh in Malaysia and Indonesia /$fby Kamaruzzaman Bustamam-Ahmad 210 1$aNewcastle upon Tyne, England :$cCambridge Scholars Publishing,$d2015. 210 4$d©2015 215 $a1 online resource (270 pages) 300 $aBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph 311 $a1-4438-7239-3 311 $a1-4438-7671-2 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references and index. 606 $aIslamic fundamentalism$zIndonesia 606 $aIslamic fundamentalism$zMalaysia 615 0$aIslamic fundamentalism 615 0$aIslamic fundamentalism 676 $a297.09598 700 $aBustamam-Ahmad$b Kamaruzzaman$01696499 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910827592703321 996 $aFrom Islamic revivalism to Islamic radicalism in Southeast Asia$94076489 997 $aUNINA
