However, textbooks and earlier research tend to display a monolingual bias. This collected volume on multilingual practices in historical materials, including code-switching, highlights the importance of a multilingual approach. The authors explore multilingualism in hitherto neglected genres, periods and areas, introduce new methods of locating and analysing multiple languages in various sources, and review terminology, theories and tools. The studies also revisit some of the issues already introduced in previous research, such as Latin interacting with European vernaculars and the complex relationship between code-switching and lexical borrowing. Collectively, the contributors show that multilingual practices share many of the same features regardless of time and place, and that one way or the other, all historical texts are multilingual. This book takes the next step in historical multilingualism studies by establishing the relevance of the multilingual approach to understanding language history. 410 0$aLanguage contact and bilingualism ;$vVolume 15. 606 $aCode-switching$xHistory 606 $aLanguages in contact$xHistory 606 $aMultilingualism$xHistory 606 $aMultilingualism and literature$xHistory 606 $aEnglish language$xHistory 606 $aHistorical linguistics 610 $aCode-switching. 610 $aHistorical Linguistics. 610 $aMultilingualism. 615 0$aCode-switching$xHistory. 615 0$aLanguages in contact$xHistory. 615 0$aMultilingualism$xHistory. 615 0$aMultilingualism and literature$xHistory. 615 0$aEnglish language$xHistory. 615 0$aHistorical linguistics. 676 $a404.2 686 $aLAN009000$2bisacsh 702 $aPahta$b Pa?ivi 702 $aSkaffari$b Janne 702 $aWright$b Laura$f1961- 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796608403321 996 $aMultilingual practices in language history$93706974 997 $aUNINA LEADER 05338nam 22008895 450 001 9910299671303321 005 20251202152017.0 010 $a3-319-10644-9 024 7 $a10.1007/978-3-319-10644-1 035 $a(CKB)3710000000271847 035 $a(EBL)1968096 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001386257 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11752475 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001386257 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11373739 035 $a(PQKB)10770009 035 $a(DE-He213)978-3-319-10644-1 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1968096 035 $a(PPN)183095146 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000271847 100 $a20141103d2015 u| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aNonlinear Vibration with Control $eFor Flexible and Adaptive Structures /$fby David Wagg, Simon Neild 205 $a2nd ed. 2015. 210 1$aCham :$cSpringer International Publishing :$cImprint: Springer,$d2015. 215 $a1 online resource (461 p.) 225 1 $aSolid Mechanics and Its Applications,$x2214-7764 ;$v218 300 $aDescription based upon print version of record. 311 08$a3-319-10643-0 320 $aIncludes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters and index. 327 $aIntroduction to Nonlinear Vibration and Control -- Nonlinear Vibration Phenomena -- Control of Nonlinear Vibrations -- Approximate Methods for Analysing Nonlinear Vibrations -- Model Analysis for Nonlinear Vibration -- Beams -- Cables -- Plates and Shells -- Solutions to Problems. 330 $aThis book provides a comprehensive discussion of nonlinear multi-modal structural vibration problems, and shows how vibration suppression can be applied to such systems by considering a sample set of relevant control techniques. It covers the basic principles of nonlinear vibrations that occur in flexible and/or adaptive structures, with an emphasis on engineering analysis and relevant control techniques. Understanding nonlinear vibrations is becoming increasingly important in a range of engineering applications, particularly in the design of flexible structures such as aircraft, satellites, bridges, and sports stadia. There is an increasing trend towards lighter structures, with increased slenderness, often made of new composite materials and requiring some form of deployment and/or active vibration control. There are also applications in the areas of robotics, mechatronics, micro electrical mechanical systems, non-destructive testing and related disciplines such as structural health monitoring. Two broader themes cut across these application areas: (i) vibration suppression ? or active damping ? and, (ii) adaptive structures and machines. In this expanded 2nd edition, revisions include: An additional section on passive vibration control, including nonlinear vibration mounts. A more in-depth description of semi-active control, including switching and continuous schemes for dampers and other semi-active systems. A complet e reworking of normal form analysis, which now includes new material on internal resonance, bifurcation of backbone curves and stability analysis of forced responses. Further analysis of the nonlinear dynamics of cables including internal resonance leading to whirling. Additional material on the vibration of systems with impact friction. The book is accessible to practitioners in the areas of application, as well as students and researchers working on related topics. In particular, the aim is to introduce the key concepts of nonlinear vibration to readers who have an understanding of linear vibration and/or linear control, but no specialist knowledge in nonlinear dynamics or nonlinear control. 410 0$aSolid Mechanics and Its Applications,$x2214-7764 ;$v218 606 $aMultibody systems 606 $aVibration 606 $aMechanics, Applied 606 $aSystem theory 606 $aControl theory 606 $aMechanical engineering 606 $aControl engineering 606 $aRobotics 606 $aAutomation 606 $aBuildings$xDesign and construction 606 $aMultibody Systems and Mechanical Vibrations 606 $aSystems Theory, Control 606 $aMechanical Engineering 606 $aControl, Robotics, Automation 606 $aBuilding Construction and Design 615 0$aMultibody systems. 615 0$aVibration. 615 0$aMechanics, Applied. 615 0$aSystem theory. 615 0$aControl theory. 615 0$aMechanical engineering. 615 0$aControl engineering. 615 0$aRobotics. 615 0$aAutomation. 615 0$aBuildings$xDesign and construction. 615 14$aMultibody Systems and Mechanical Vibrations. 615 24$aSystems Theory, Control. 615 24$aMechanical Engineering. 615 24$aControl, Robotics, Automation. 615 24$aBuilding Construction and Design. 676 $a531.32 700 $aWagg$b David$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$0521396 702 $aNeild$b Simon$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910299671303321 996 $aNonlinear Vibration with Control$91465849 997 $aUNINA
