Svay provides a remarkably detailed picture of individual villagers and of Khmer social structure and kinship, agriculture, politics, and religion. The world Ebihara described would soon be shattered by Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge. Fifty percent of the villagers perished in the reign of terror, including those who had been Ebihara's adoptive parents and grandparents during her fieldwork. Never before published as a book, Ebihara's dissertation served as the foundation for much of our subsequent understanding of Cambodian history, society, and politics. 606 $aKhmers$zCambodia$zSvay Riaeeng 606 $aVillage communities$zCambodia$zSvay Riaeeng 607 $aSvay Riaeeng (Cambodia)$xSocial life and customs 607 $aSvay Riaeeng (Cambodia)$xHistory$y20th century 608 $aEthnography. 615 0$aKhmers 615 0$aVillage communities 676 $a959.604 700 $aEbihara$b May$01546180 702 $aMertha$b Andrew$f1965- 702 $aLedgerwood$b Judy 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910796237203321 996 $aSvay$93801574 997 $aUNINA
