Without wanting to pursue the quest for principles or ultimate predictions this study looks specifically into the role of the military in foreign policy decision-making. It does so by carefully reconstructing and comparing the sequential series of decisions of a group of British and Dutch senior civil and military decision-makers which have led to the deployment of their militaries into to Afghan provinces of Helmand and Uruzgan. One of the most prominent findings of this analysis is the shaping ability of military initiatives on the series of decisions and the consequent path dependent reasoning during political deliberations on the deployment of military forces: the decision of the United Kingdom and the Netherlands to deploy their troops to southern Afghanistan was based on an emergent case that largely built itself. 606 $aCivil-military relations$zGreat Britain 606 $aCivil-military relations$zNetherlands 606 $aMilitary assistance, British$zAfghanistan 607 $aGreat Britain$xForeign relations$zAfghanistan 615 0$aCivil-military relations 615 0$aCivil-military relations 615 0$aMilitary assistance, British 676 $a327.420581 700 $aMantas$b Mirjam Grandia$01504792 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910795610203321 996 $aInescapable entrapments$93734007 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01844nim 2200409Ka 450 001 9910151779703321 005 20250327100014.8 010 $a9780792758396 010 $a0792758390 035 $a(CKB)3710000000953385 035 $a(ODN)ODN0000114733 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000953385 100 $a20130827d2006 uy 1 101 0 $aeng 135 $auruna---||||| 181 $cspw$2rdacontent 182 $cs$2rdamedia 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$a81 famous poems $eAn audio companion to the norton anthology of poetry. /$fvarious authors 205 $aUnabridged. 210 $aAshland $cBlackstone Audio, Inc., and Buck 50 Productions, LLC$d2006 215 $a1 online resource (2 audio files) $cdigital 300 $aUnabridged. 330 $aListen to the sound of English as it was meant to be heard.
