During these years, the immigrant community went to great lengths to project an impeccable public image by denying the existence of social problems such as domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, mental illness, racism, and intergenerational conflict. It was not until recently that activist groups have worked to bring these issues out into the open. In Body Evidence, more than twenty scholars and public health professionals uncover the unique challenges faced by victims of violence in intimate spaces . . . within families, communities and trusted relationships in South Asian American communities. Topics include cultural obsession with women's chastity and virginity; the continued silence surrounding intimate violence among women who identify themselves as lesbian, bisexual, or transgender; the consequences of refusing marriage proposals or failing to meet dowry demands; and, ultimately, the ways in which the United States courts often confuse and exacerbate the plights of these women. 606 $aFamily violence$zUnited States 606 $aVictims of family violence$zUnited States 606 $aSouth Asian American women$xViolence against$zUnited States 606 $aSouth Asian American women$xServices for$zUnited States 606 $aWomen immigrants$xViolence against$zUnited States 606 $aWomen immigrants$xLegal status, laws, etc$zUnited States 606 $aSouth Asian Americans$xSocial conditions 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aFamily violence 615 0$aVictims of family violence 615 0$aSouth Asian American women$xViolence against 615 0$aSouth Asian American women$xServices for 615 0$aWomen immigrants$xViolence against 615 0$aWomen immigrants$xLegal status, laws, etc. 615 0$aSouth Asian Americans$xSocial conditions. 676 $a362.82/92208991073 701 $aDasgupta$b Shamita Das$052521 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910452150803321 996 $aBody evidence$92485369 997 $aUNINA LEADER 01544nam 2200433 450 001 9910795271303321 005 20230809235530.0 035 $a(CKB)4940000000148141 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5982588 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL5982588 035 $a(OCoLC)1129207752 035 $a(EXLCZ)994940000000148141 100 $a20191212d2017 uy 0 101 0 $afre 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 00$aComment prote?ger et promouvoir votre culture $eguide pratique de la proprie?te? intellectuelle pour les peuples autochtones et les communaute?s locales /$fOrganisation Mondiale de la Proprie?te? Starting with the invasion of Libya in 1911 and concluding with the rise of post-war social and political unrest, the volume traces domestic and foreign policy, the economics of the war effort, the history of military innovation, and social changes including the war?s impact on religion and women, along with major cultural and artistic developments of the period. Each chapter provides a concise and effective overview of the field as it currently stands as well as introducing readers to the latest research.
