Cultural theory is used to analyse this. Egalitarian pressures have had a profound influence on technological outcomes, not merely in securing the deployment of renewable energy but also in increasing the costs of nuclear power. Whereas in the 1970s it might have been expected that individualist, market based pressures allied to dominant hierarchies would deliver nuclear power as the main response to problems associated with fossil fuels, a surprising combination has emerged. Egalitarian and individualist pressures are, together, leading to increasing levels of deployment of renewable energy.?This work finds that electricity monopolies tend to favour nuclear power whereas competitive arrangements are more likely to lead to more renewable energy being deployed. It covers developments in a number of countries including USA, UK, China, South Africa and also Germany and Denmark. This book will be of great relevance to students, academics and policymakers with an interest in energy policy, low carbon politics and climate change. 410 0$aRoutledge Studies in Energy Policy. 606 $aPOLITICAL SCIENCE / Public Policy / Environmental Policy$2bisacsh 606 $aClimate Change$2bisacsh 606 $acultural theory$2bisacsh 606 $aEnvironmental economics$2bisacsh 606 $aEnvironmental policy$2bisacsh 606 $aEnvironmental studies$2bisacsh 606 $aegalitarian frames$2bisacsh 606 $aelectricity sector$2bisacsh 606 $aenergy politics$2bisacsh 606 $ahierarchical frames$2bisacsh 606 $aindividualist frames$2bisacsh 606 $alow carbon politics$2bisacsh 606 $anuclear power$2bisacsh 606 $arenewable energy$2bisacsh 606 $aSustainability$2bisacsh 606 $aRenewable energy sources 606 $aElectric power production 606 $aBUSINESS & ECONOMICS$xReal Estate$vGeneral 615 7$aPOLITICAL SCIENCE / Public Policy / Environmental Policy. 615 7$aClimate Change. 615 7$acultural theory. 615 7$aEnvironmental economics. 615 7$aEnvironmental policy. 615 7$aEnvironmental studies. 615 7$aegalitarian frames. 615 7$aelectricity sector. 615 7$aenergy politics. 615 7$ahierarchical frames. 615 7$aindividualist frames. 615 7$alow carbon politics. 615 7$anuclear power. 615 7$arenewable energy. 615 7$aSustainability. 615 0$aRenewable energy sources. 615 0$aElectric power production. 615 0$aBUSINESS & ECONOMICS$xReal Estate 676 $a333.79/4 700 $aToke$b David $01092602 801 0$bFlBoTFG 801 1$bFlBoTFG 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910795060003321 996 $aLow Carbon Politics$93853280 997 $aUNINA
