Evo Morales, leader of the MAS, became the first indigenous president of Bolivia.Kepa Artaraz looks at the attempt to 'refound the nation' which the new government has made as its goal. He shows how the mix of Marxism, indigenous liberation politics, anti-imperialism and environmentalism has made Bolivia one of the most interesting and unique political experiments of Latin America's 'red decade'.As the historic left-turn in Latin America reaches a crossroads, Bolivia: Refounding the Nation guides us through the politics and ideas which have animated this popular movement, drawing out important lessons for progressive politics everywhere. 606 $aNationalism$zBolivia 607 $aBolivia$xPolitics and government 615 0$aNationalism 676 $a320.984 700 $aArtaraz$b Kepa$01519656 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910779138803321 996 $aBolivia$93757886 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04473nam 22006855 450 001 9910794990103321 005 20230126223259.0 010 $a0-8232-7680-5 010 $a0-8232-7729-1 010 $a0-8232-7679-1 010 $a0-8232-7678-3 024 7 $a10.1515/9780823276790 035 $a(CKB)4340000000195536 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC4983749 035 $a(StDuBDS)EDZ0001809948 035 $a(OCoLC)1002696026 035 $a(MdBmJHUP)muse65206 035 $a(DE-B1597)555366 035 $a(DE-B1597)9780823276790 035 $a(OCoLC)1003265608 035 $a(EXLCZ)994340000000195536 100 $a20200723h20172017 fg 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $2rdacontent 182 $2rdamedia 183 $2rdacarrier 200 10$aPaul Hanly Furfey $ePriest, Scientist, Social Reformer /$fNicholas K. Paul Hanly Furfey (1896?1992) is one of U.S. Catholicism?s greatest champions of peace and social justice. He and his colleagues at The Catholic University of America offered a revolutionary view of the university as a center for social transformation, not only in training students to be agents for social change but also in establishing structures which would empower and transform the communities that surrounded the university. In part a response to the Great Depression, their social settlement model drew on the latest social scientific research and technique while at the same time incorporating principles they learned from radical Catholics like Dorothy Day and Catherine de Hueck Doherty. Likewise, through his academic scholarship and popular writings, Furfey offered an alternative vision of the social order and identified concrete steps to achieve that vision. Indeed, Furfey remains a compelling exemplar for anyone who pursues truth, beauty, and justice, especially within the context of higher education and the academy.Leaving behind an important legacy for Catholic sociology, Furfey demonstrated how to balance liberal, radical, and revolutionary social thought and practice to elicit new approaches to social reform. 410 0$aCatholic practice in North America. 606 $aCatholics$zUnited States$vBiography 610 $aCatholic Social Thought and Practice. 610 $aCatholic Worker. 610 $aHigher Education. 610 $aLiberation theology. 610 $aRadical Catholicism. 610 $aSocial Work History. 610 $aSociology History. 610 $aUnited States Catholic Church History. 610 $aUnited States Church History. 610 $asocial justice. 615 0$aCatholics 676 $a282.092 700 $aRademacher$b Nicholas K.$4aut$4http://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut$01570290 801 0$bDE-B1597 801 1$bDE-B1597 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910794990103321 996 $aPaul Hanly Furfey$93843816 997 $aUNINA
