Hertodt discusses saffron's origin, related species, cultivation, selection, properties and lists all its pharmaceutical preparations. Hertodt then journeys through diseases of the human body, presenting saffron-containing formulae for their treatment. The two authors complement the translation with a biography of Hertodt, and detail saffron's botany, current production, uses, its changing reputation as a drug, and review findings from new medical research. There is a full Glossary, and translation of a contemporary approbation of Crocologia by Hertodt's rival, Wenzel Maximilian Ardensbach"--$cProvided by publisher. 410 0$aBrill's studies in intellectual history ;$vVolume 22. 606 $aSaffron crocus 606 $aMedicinal plants 615 0$aSaffron crocus. 615 0$aMedicinal plants. 676 $a633.82 700 $aFrancis$b Sally$01478656 702 $aRamandi$b Maria Teresa 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910794005503321 996 $aCrocologia--a detailed study of saffron, the king of plants$93694428 997 $aUNINA
