Legal historians have extensively studied the contract doctrines developed by Roman Catholic theologians and canonists; however, they have largely neglected Martin Luther, Philip Melanchthon, Johann Aepinus, Martin Chemnitz, Friedrich Balduin and many other reformers. This book focuses on those neglected voices of the Reformation, exploring their role in the history of contract law. These men mapped out general principles to counter commercial fraud and dictated norms to regulate standard economic transactions. The most learned jurists, such as Matthias Coler, Peter Heige, Benedict Carpzov, and Samuel Stryk, among others, studied these theological teachings and implemented them in legal tenets. Theologians and jurists thus cooperated in resolving contract law problems, especially those concerning interest and usury. 410 0$aLaw and Religion in the Early Modern Period / Recht und Religion in der Frühen Neuzeit ;$v1. 606 $aConscience 606 $aMoral theology 606 $aCasuistry 606 $aReformation 606 $aLutheran Orthodoxy 606 $aCommutative justice 606 $aMarket and morality 606 $aFinancial regulation 606 $aJust price 606 $aCensus 615 4$aConscience 615 4$aMoral theology 615 4$aCasuistry 615 4$aReformation 615 4$aLutheran Orthodoxy 615 4$aCommutative justice 615 4$aMarket and morality 615 4$aFinancial regulation 615 4$aJust price 615 4$aCensus 676 $a346.43020904 700 $aAstorri$b Paolo$4aut$01493100 702 $aSelderhuis$b Herman J$4edt 702 $aDeckock$b Wim$4edt 702 $aKakolewski$b Igor$4edt 702 $aLu?ck$b Heiner$4edt 702 $aRasmussen$b Tarald$4edt 702 $aBastubacka$b Johan$4edt 702 $aGotzmann$b Andreas$4edt 702 $aKennedy$b Chloe?$4edt 702 $aKolodziejczyk$b Dariusz$4edt 702 $aKooria$b Mahmood$4edt 702 $aMa?kinen$b Virpi$4edt 702 $aMoutin$b Osvaldo Rodolfo$4edt 702 $aRoss$b Richard J$4edt 702 $aSashalmi$b Endre$4edt 702 $aSchlo?gl$b Rudolf$4edt 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910793776403321 996 $aLutheran Theology and Contract Law in Early Modern Germany (ca. 1520-1720)$93715953 997 $aUNINA
