Using life history analysis, Howell reinterprets this rich material to address the question of how these hunter-gatherers maintain their notably good health from childhood through old age in the Kalahari's harsh environment. She divides the population into life history stages that correlate with estimated chronological ages and demonstrates how and why they survive, even thrive, on a modest allotment of calories. She describes how surplus food is produced and distributed, and she considers both the motives for the generous sharing she has observed among the Dobe !Kung and some evolutionary implications of that behavior. 410 0$aOrigins of human behavior and culture ;$v4. 606 $a!Kung (African people)$xFood 606 $a!Kung (African people)$xNutrition 606 $a!Kung (African people)$xHealth and hygiene 606 $aFood habits$zKalahari Desert 606 $aFood$xCaloric content$zKalahari Desert 610 $aanthropological data set. 610 $aanthropology. 610 $abiographical. 610 $abushmen. 610 $acultural anthropology. 610 $adiscussion books. 610 $adobe kung. 610 $aethnographers. 610 $aevolutionary implications. 610 $afood. 610 $agenerational. 610 $agood health. 610 $aharsh environment. 610 $ahuman behavior. 610 $ahuman culture. 610 $ahunter gatherers. 610 $akalahari desert. 610 $alife analysis. 610 $alife histories. 610 $alife spans. 610 $alife stages. 610 $alow calorie diets. 610 $anonfiction. 610 $aphysical anthropology. 610 $aremote places. 610 $aretrospective. 610 $ascientists. 610 $asharing culture. 610 $asociology anthropology. 610 $aweight issues. 615 0$a!Kung (African people)$xFood. 615 0$a!Kung (African people)$xNutrition. 615 0$a!Kung (African people)$xHealth and hygiene. 615 0$aFood habits 615 0$aFood$xCaloric content 676 $a613.2089/961 700 $aHowell$b Nancy$01527370 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910792599503321 996 $aLife histories of the Dobe !Kung$93770123 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02441nam 2200613 450 001 9910822637703321 005 20240131151909.0 010 $a1-4438-5741-6 035 $a(CKB)3710000000093698 035 $a(EBL)1656443 035 $a(SSID)ssj0001209426 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11694261 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001209426 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)11171300 035 $a(PQKB)10403886 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC1656443 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL1656443 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10850113 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL830816 035 $a(OCoLC)875097252 035 $a(FINmELB)ELB149888 035 $a(EXLCZ)993710000000093698 100 $a20140401h20142014 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aAdoption of tissue culture in horticulture $ea study of banana-growing farmers from a South-Indian state /$fby Ch.
