Jerome Packard's book provides a comprehensive discussion of the linguistic and cognitive nature of Chinese words. It shows that Chinese, far from being 'morphologically impoverished', has a different morphological system because it selects different 'settings' on parameters shared by all languages. The analysis of Chinese word formation therefore enhances our understanding of word universals. Packard describes the intimate relationship between words and their components, including how the identities of Chinese morphemes are word-driven, and offers new insights into the evolution of morphemes based on Chinese data. Models are offered for how Chinese words are stored in the mental lexicon and processed in natural speech, showing that much of what native speakers know about words occurs innately in the form of a hard-wired, specifically linguistic 'program' in the brain. 606 $aChinese language$xMorphology 615 0$aChinese language$xMorphology. 676 $a495.1/5 700 $aPackard$b Jerome Lee$f1951-$01027875 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910454684003321 996 $aThe morphology of Chinese$92443581 997 $aUNINA LEADER 04141nam 2200769Ia 450 001 9910791369203321 005 20230725015510.0 010 $a1-84541-191-9 010 $a1-282-65691-0 010 $a9786612656910 010 $a1-84541-138-2 024 7 $a10.21832/9781845411381 035 $a(CKB)2560000000012026 035 $a(EBL)543887 035 $a(OCoLC)645099460 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000424430 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)12121834 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000424430 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10471964 035 $a(PQKB)11005202 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC543887 035 $a(DE-B1597)541745 035 $a(DE-B1597)9781845411381 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL543887 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10393249 035 $a(CaONFJC)MIL265691 035 $a(EXLCZ)992560000000012026 100 $a20100204d2010 uy 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur|n|---||||| 181 $ctxt 182 $cc 183 $acr 200 10$aOfficial tourism websites$b[electronic resource] $ea discourse analysis perspective /$fRichard W. Analysis addresses how tourism websites foster social action and, therefore, contribute to the (re)construction of nations and other communities by variably fostering re-imagination, rebirth, renaissance, promotion and caution, and patriotism. Recognizing that tourism texts can function to both construct and embody identity for their respective locales, this investigation employs critical discourse analysis, multimodal discourse analysis, and visual semiotic analysis in the investigation of web texts and images. 410 0$aTourism and cultural change ;$v23. 606 $aTourism$xComputer network resources 606 $aWeb sites 606 $aWorld Wide Web 610 $acommunity. 610 $adiscourse analysis. 610 $ameaning-making. 610 $anational identity. 610 $aofficial tourism websites. 610 $aplanning. 610 $atourism marketing. 615 0$aTourism$xComputer network resources. 615 0$aWeb sites. 615 0$aWorld Wide Web. 676 $a025.06/91 700 $aHallett$b Richard W$0477435 701 $aKaplan-Weinger$b Judith$0732124 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910791369203321 996 $aOfficial Tourism Websites$91442458 997 $aUNINA
