The youth on whom this ethnography focuses live in a community that has long been romanticized by Tibetans and non-Tibetans alike, positioning these youth to see themselves as keepers of a modern day Shangri-la. Through this ethnography - based on a decade of research - Heidi Swank suggests that through seemingly mundane writings (grocery lists, text messages, et cetera) these youth are shifting what Shangri-la means by renogotiating important aspects of life in this Tibetan community to better match their lived - not romanticized - experiences as exiles in rural India. 410 0$aBrill's Tibetan studies library ;$vv. 34. 606 $aTibetans$zIndia$zMcleodganj$vCase studies 606 $aYouth$zIndia$zMcleodganj$vCase studies 606 $aImmigrant youth$zIndia$zMcleodganj$vCase studies 606 $aYouths' writings$xSocial aspects 606 $aWritten communication$xSocial aspects 606 $aGroup identity$zTibet Region 607 $aMcleodganj (India)$xEmigration and immigration$xSocial aspects 607 $aTibet Region$xCivilization 615 0$aTibetans 615 0$aYouth 615 0$aImmigrant youth 615 0$aYouths' writings$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aWritten communication$xSocial aspects. 615 0$aGroup identity 676 $a305.800951/5 700 $aSwank$b Heidi$01523316 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910791324203321 996 $aRewriting Shangri-La$93763480 997 $aUNINA
