This is expressed in a range of gestures and procedures, shifting between affirmative fulfilment and pessimistic negation. In this groundbreaking study, Stephen Downes explores the relationship of this aspect of Mahler's music to the output of Benjamin Britten, Kurt Weill and Hans Werner Henze. Their initial admiration was notably dissonant with the prevailing Zeitgeist - Britten in 1930s England, Weill in 1920s Germany and Henze in 1950s Germany and Italy. Downes argues that Mahler's music struck a profound chord with them because of the powerful manner in which it raises and intensifies dystopian and utopian complexes and probes the question of fulfilment or redemption, an ambition manifest in ambiguous tonal, temporal and formal processes. Comparisons of the ways in which this topic is evoked facilitate new interpretative insights into the music of these four major composers. 606 $aMusic$y20th century$xHistory and criticism 615 0$aMusic$xHistory and criticism. 676 $a780.9/04 700 $aDownes$b Stephen C.$f1962-$01494244 801 0$bUkCbUP 801 1$bUkCbUP 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910790613803321 996 $aAfter Mahler$93717669 997 $aUNINA LEADER 02686nam 2200589 450 001 9910793268703321 005 20220523114839.0 010 $a3-95487-740-6 024 7 $a10.31819/9783954877409 035 $a(CKB)4100000007165069 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC5757674 035 $a(DE-B1597)517317 035 $a(OCoLC)1076225944 035 $a(DE-B1597)9783954877409 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC6273095 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL6273095 035 $a(OCoLC)1121503329 035 $a(FlNmELB)ELB105246 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC29347245 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL29347245 035 $a(EXLCZ)994100000007165069 100 $a20220523d2018 uy 0 101 0 $aspa 135 $aurcnu|||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdamedia/spa 182 $cc$2rdamedia/spa 183 $2rdacarrier/spa 200 14$aLos Californios $eHistoria Sociolinguistica de California en el Siglo XIX /$fCovadonga Lamar Prieto 205 $a1st ed. 210 1$aMadrid :$cIberoamericana Editorial Vervuert,$d[2018] 210 4$d©2018 215 $a1 recurso en li?nea (244 pa?ginas) 225 0 $aLengua y Sociedad en el Mundo Hispánico ;$v39 311 0 $a84-16922-86-1 311 0 $a84-16922-86-1 327 $tFront matter --$tÍndice --$tAgradecimientos --$tIntroducción. Tras la anexión a los Estados Unidos, los californios ven cómo las leyes, la escolarización y los derechos de posesión de la tierra se enuncian -lingüística y culturalmente- en inglés. La historia de la alterización de los hablantes de español en los Estados Unidos no se puede comprender sin prestar atención a cómo se desarrolla ese proceso en California. 410 0$aLengua y sociedad en el mundo hispa?nico ;$v39. 606 $aSpanish language$xSocial aspects$zCalifornia$xHistory$y19th century 606 $aSpanish language$xDialects 615 0$aSpanish language$xSocial aspects$xHistory 615 0$aSpanish language$xDialects. 676 $a467.9794 686 $aIM 2420$2rvk 700 $aLamar Prieto$b Covadonga$01480184 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910793268703321 996 $aLos Californios$93696709 997 $aUNINA
