Their aims are two: to understand how a public manager might confront that complex undertaking, and to explore the similarities, differences, and complementarities of their alternative approaches to public management.The book takes as its pivot point the singular case of U.S. Coast Guard CaptainSuzanne Englebert and her leadership of efforts to secure America's ports after theSeptember 11 attack 606 $aHarbors$xManagement 606 $aMarine terminals$xManagement 606 $aHarbors$xSecurity measures 606 $aMarine terminals$xSecurity measures 608 $aElectronic books. 615 0$aHarbors$xManagement. 615 0$aMarine terminals$xManagement. 615 0$aHarbors$xSecurity measures. 615 0$aMarine terminals$xSecurity measures. 676 $a387.1068 701 $aDonahue$b John D$0299990 701 $aMoore$b Mark Harrison$0985787 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910461117103321 996 $aPorts in a storm$92447056 997 $aUNINA LEADER 03487nam 22006612 450 001 9910790238703321 005 20200817091137.0 010 $a1-139-41104-7 010 $a1-107-22401-2 010 $a1-139-41933-1 010 $a1-139-01470-6 010 $a1-139-42137-9 010 $a1-139-41728-2 010 $a1-139-42342-8 035 $a(CKB)2670000000203840 035 $a(EBL)907092 035 $a(OCoLC)794663462 035 $a(SSID)ssj0000657862 035 $a(PQKBManifestationID)11955723 035 $a(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000657862 035 $a(PQKBWorkID)10656862 035 $a(PQKB)11132751 035 $a(UkCbUP)CR9781139014700 035 $a(MiAaPQ)EBC907092 035 $a(Au-PeEL)EBL907092 035 $a(CaPaEBR)ebr10568374 035 $a(EXLCZ)992670000000203840 100 $a20141103d2012|||| uy| 0 101 0 $aeng 135 $aur||||||||||| 181 $ctxt$2rdacontent 182 $cc$2rdamedia 183 $acr$2rdacarrier 200 10$aParty politics and economic reform in Africa's democracies /$fM. Anne Pitcher offers an engaging new theory to explain the different trajectories of private sector development across contemporary Africa. Pitcher argues that the outcomes of economic reforms depend not only on the kinds of institutional arrangements adopted by states in order to create or expand their private sectors, but also on the nature of party system competition and the quality of democracy in particular countries. To illustrate her claim, Pitcher draws on several original data sets covering twenty-seven countries in Africa, and detailed case studies of the privatization process in Zambia, Mozambique and South Africa. This study underscores the importance of formal institutions and political context to the design and outcome of economic policies in developing countries. 410 0$aAfrican studies series ;$v119. 517 3 $aParty Politics & Economic Reform in Africa's Democracies 606 $aPolitical parties$zAfrica 606 $aDemocratization$zAfrica 607 $aAfrica$xEconomic policy 615 0$aPolitical parties 615 0$aDemocratization 676 $a338.96 700 $aPitcher$b M.
