There have however to date been few investigations which draw serious consequences from this and which also view miniatures of rulers in the light of their functional aspects, for example as ?memorial depictions? (O.G. Oexle), or on the basis of the social reality of the pious motives behind their presentation. This study gives a more precise explanation of the function and purpose of ruler-images by examining a few selected early medieval miniatures. It analyzes the historical and social contexts of their genesis and the liturgical and commemorative aims of their use against the setting of the social form of remembrance of confraternity. 410 0$aBrill's series on the early Middle Ages ;$vv. 19. 606 $aKings and rulers in art 606 $aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval$zEurope 606 $aPortraits$xThemes, motives 606 $aChristian art and symbolism 615 0$aKings and rulers in art. 615 0$aIllumination of books and manuscripts, Medieval 615 0$aPortraits$xThemes, motives. 615 0$aChristian art and symbolism. 676 $a745.6/7094 700 $aWagner$b Wolfgang Eric$01533651 801 0$bMiAaPQ 801 1$bMiAaPQ 801 2$bMiAaPQ 906 $aBOOK 912 $a9910790050603321 996 $aDie liturgische Gegenwart des abwesenden Ko?nigs$93780747 997 $aUNINA
